Teaching
Educational growth is not the accumulation of more and more pieces of information, but the development of an increasingly complex structure for organizing and interrelating ideas. |

Teaching Statement and Philosophy
I am interested in teaching as a radical act: a multifaceted encounter and collaboration with students.
Because I continue to learn with and from the students my classes, my educational philosophy is continuously evolving. Yet, as I gain insight on the complex interactions between students and their environment, I re-examine my own stance and work to adapt to the changing needs of the individuals in my classes. Part of enabling the kinds of encounters I envision is shared responsibility in the classroom, such as peer evaluation, as well as shared decision-making regarding evaluation and communication needs/styles. Another aspect of learning that I consciously encourage is creativity. I do this through various modalities to give space to different learning styles and differential abilities, in the end my courses’ assessment strategies are always aimed at providing various forms of evaluation combined.
